THE CITY´S SHIELD

At first there was not enough organization in the resolution to construct the Tower of
Babel; In reality,perhaps the order was excessive. Too much thought about guides,
interpreters, accommodations for laborers and communication routes as if they had centuries.

In those times, the consensus of opinion was that it could not be built with too much slowness;
A little more and they would have abandoned everything, and even given up to lay the foundations.

The people reasoned this way:The heart of the matter of the company is the thought to construct a tower than reaches to heaven. The rest is completely secondary.That thought,once once his greatness was understood, is unforgettable:While there are men in the land , the strong desire to finish the tower will exist also.

Consequently the future must not worry us. on the contrary:men's knowledge advances, the architecture has progressed and will keep on progressing;from here to a hundred years the work for which we specify one year will be made perhaps in few months, and more resistant..Then,what to tire us out now? That would make sense if there is room for the hope that the tower will get finished in the space of a generation . That hope was impossible.

The most believable thing was that the new generation ,with his superior knowledge, condemned the work of the previous generation and demolished all that advanced, in order to restart.Such thoughts paralyzed energy, and they thought less of constructing the tower than of constructing a city for the laborers.

Each nationality wanted the best neighborhood, and this gave place to disputes that culminated in bloody fights.
Those fights did not have end; some leaders said that it would delay the construction of the tower very much and others that it was worth it to wait so that peace was reestablished...But they not only spent the time in fighting;In the truces they dedicated themselves to embellishig the city, which provoked new envies and new fights.

That is way it happened during the time of the first generation, but not one of the following was
different; the technical dexterity only increased and with it the warring desire.
Although the second or third generation recognized the foolishness of a tower that reaches up to
heaven, they were already too committed to abandon the work and the city.

The prediction that five successive blows of a gigantic fist will annihilate the city is present in all the legends and songs of that city. For that reason the coat of arms of the city includes a fist.
